The name Shaku-One, refers to a Japanese unit of measurement derived from the Chinese chi originally equated to the length of the forearm which approximated to 30.3cm or 303mm with a conversion to inches of 11.9. This unit of measurement eventually faded from popular use although it is still used in some forms of traditional carpentry that rely upon craftsman's instructions passed from one generation to the next.
